If we’re lucky enough to see the start of a new year, let’s be smart enough to use it well.  Here are several options for what you might do at this pivotal time:

Participate in our upcoming course:  Living on Purpose, which begins on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023.  We live in the most distracting culture in the history of civilization.  It is increasingly difficult to stay focused on what is truly important in our lives.   This  course provides an opportunity to ground yourself in a more purposeful approach to your life as you begin the new year.  LEARN MORE AND REGISTER HERE.

Develop the Rule of Three Habit
Early in the morning, before you jump into activity, clarify your top three priorities.  We refer to these as “the three jewels” of your day. This allows you to focus your energy and time on what’s truly important.  That focus & intention helps you avoid being distracted by things which need to be done but are clearly less important or more common distractions.

Highlight the Year That Hasn’t Happened Yet
This is a wonderful exercise to clarify your purpose(s).  Particularly nice to do with your family, partner or close friends. Here’s how to do it.

Read The Art of Taking Action by Gregg Krech. The Art of Taking Action: Lessons from Japanese Psychology
The Kindle version of Gregg’s best-selling book is on sale for 50% off for the next 36 hours ($2.99).  A unique book on the “Action” side of Asian psychology, the book is both practical and inspiring.  A great resource for the new year.

Start a Naikan journal.  Do at least a short reflection every day, using the three Naikan questions:  what did I receive / what did I give / what troubles did I cause.  You can apply these questions to the past 24 hours, reflecting on your encounters with the world, or you can apply the questions to an individual.  Record your reflections in a notebook, on the computer, in whatever form you prefer.  Taking a few minutes to look in a deliberate way at your life and your relationships, is a beautiful and important thing to do.

Have a wonderful year.  May you discover joy in unexpected places and be a positive force in the world.
